Want to shape how quality is built, not just catch bugs at the end? As our Technical QA Engineer, you'll take our test automation to the next level. Your work helps municipalities keep children in school, get students safely to class, and protect local families from debt.
About the role
Joining two agile teams on a modern Symfony/PHP stack, you won’t be expected to have a complete strategy figured out on day one. You will start hands-on integrating CI/CD quality gates and optimising tests. As you establish these foundations, you will step up to take full ownership of the broader testing strategy.
After six months;
Hotfixes are rare, because critical issues are caught upstream in design and automated pipelines.
Fast, reliable test suites run automatically, giving developers instant feedback on their changes.
Developers actively write better integration tests and collaborate on test design as part of their standard workflow.
Your responsibilities
Analyse early. Review designs and user stories with the team, assess risks, and make sure acceptance criteria are clear and testable before coding starts.
Automate smartly. Build fast, reliable full-stack automation (API, integration, E2E).
Integrate pipelines. Drive CI/CD test gates using modern, AI-assisted tooling.
Coach and elevate. Partner with developers and product owners to elevate testing practices (TDD/BDD) across teams.
Learn from what breaks. Use hotfixes and metrics (flakiness, coverage, defect trends) to fix underlying processes, not just individual bugs.
Safeguard. Implement automated checks for WCAG accessibility and audit secure coding standards.
About you
Experience: 3+ years in technical QA, with a clear drive to step up into strategy ownership.
Technical chops: Clean, maintainable test code in a modern scripting/OOP language (we use PHP, but solid architecture matters more than the specific stack).
Analytical mindset: Skilled at dissecting complex system behaviour, reviewing specs, and diagnosing root causes.
Mentor: Help developers grow, leading by example, and making quality concepts clear to everyone.
Basics: Bachelor’s/Master’s level (HBO/WO) or equivalent experience, good command of English and interest in learning Dutch.
Submitting a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) is required as part of our onboarding process.
Nice-to-haves
Experience with testing frameworks such as Playwright, Cypress, PHPUnit, Pest, or Codeception.
Hands-on experience with CI/CD platforms (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).
Experience with WCAG / EN 301 549 accessibility audits or basic security testing.
QA certifications such as TMap or ISTQB.
