Over de functie

Junior Vegetable Oils Trader

Our story goes back more than 150 years, to the chilly southern coast of Scandinavia. From our early success in Sweden and Denmark, we’ve grown into the world’s leading specialist producer of plant-based oils, employing more than 4,000 people across the globe.

We work with our customers to make the products you love even better. The oils we produce go into making your chocolate extra-creamy or putting the crunch into your croissant. And it’s not just food - we work across industries to make products that are higher quality, healthier and better for the planet.

Everything we do is about Making Better Happen™.

AAK Location

This role is based in either Rotterdam or Zaandijk, The Netherlands.

About the role

As Junior Vegetable Oils Trader, you will be part of AAK’s European Sourcing & Trading team, supporting the sourcing and trading of vegetable oils across our European business. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with up to three years of experience in commodity trading, sourcing, procurement or a related commercial role who is looking to build a long-term career in international trading.

Working alongside experienced traders, you will develop market knowledge, commercial judgement and disciplined trading skills while gaining exposure to the fast-moving world of agricultural commodities. You will monitor market developments, support trade execution and help ensure reliable supply across AAK’s European operations.
As your experience grows, you will take increasing ownership of selected trades, supplier relationships and purchasing decisions, all within agreed trading mandates and risk frameworks.

Responsibilities

- Monitor vegetable oils markets, including prices, supply and demand trends, freight, currencies and relevant geopolitical or regulatory developments.
- Support the execution of physical vegetable oils trades, including quotations, contract confirmations, delivery coordination and trade follow-up.
- Maintain accurate trading positions, pricing records and exposure reporting, escalating risks or discrepancies where required.
- Contribute to pricing analysis, hedging preparation and trading recommendations under the guidance of senior traders.
- Build strong relationships with suppliers, brokers, customers and internal stakeholders to support reliable supply and identify commercial opportunities.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain, Finance, Quality, Sustainability, Sales and Operations to resolve commercial and operational issues.
- Develop your understanding of commodity markets, trading disciplines and risk management while progressively taking ownership of selected categories and trades.
- Ensure compliance with trading governance, contractual obligations and sustainability requirements across all activities.

About you

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Supply Chain, Agribusiness or a related field.
- Up to three years of relevant experience in commodity trading, sourcing, procurement, logistics, market analysis or a similar commercial environment; internships and graduate experience are also valued.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret market data and draw clear commercial conclusions.
- A genuine interest in vegetable oils, agricultural commodities and international physical trading.
- Commercial mindset combined with strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to learning.
- Ability to work within structured risk and governance frameworks while developing sound trading judgement.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to build relationships with colleagues, suppliers and market partners.
- Fluent in English; additional European languages are an advantage.
