Lead pioneering research in radar remote sensing with real-world impact. Develop next-generation phased-array radar technology, inspire future engineers and scientists, and work with some of Europe’s most advanced radar facilities.
Challenge: Advancing radar sensing capabilities for a rapidly changing world.
Change: Developing innovative phased-array radar technologies and related signal processing methods.
Impact: Enabling better weather monitoring, climate research, environmental observation, and safety-critical applications.
We are looking for a researcher with a strong scientific foundation, a passion for innovation, and the ambition to develop a leading research programme in radar remote sensing. You enjoy combining theory, experimentation and real-world applications, and you are motivated to contribute to both research excellence and high-quality education.
You also have:
We recognise that academic careers develop along different paths and welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds. If you are excited about this opportunity but do not meet every requirement, we encourage you to apply.
At TU Delft’s Microwave Sensing, Signals and Systems (MS3) group, you will conduct pioneering research in active phased-array radar systems for remote sensing applications. Your work will contribute to societal challenges ranging from weather forecasting and climate monitoring to drone detection, space surveillance, sea-state monitoring, thunderstorm observation, and environmental monitoring.
As an Assistant Professor, you will develop and lead an independent research line in radar remote sensing. You will define a long-term scientific vision and translate it into innovative research projects focused on phased-array radar signal processing, target and clutter parameter estimation, and the use of polarimetric and Doppler information. You will work closely with colleagues across disciplines to advance both fundamental knowledge and practical radar applications.
A unique aspect of this position is access to TU Delft’s state-of-the-art radar infrastructure, including PARSAX, MESEWI and PHARA. You will use these facilities to validate research concepts and contribute to the further development of our experimental radar platforms.
You will build and supervise a team of PhD candidates, mentor MSc students, and contribute to a collaborative and internationally recognised research environment. In addition, you will establish partnerships with industry and public organisations, develop research proposals, and secure external funding to support your research ambitions.
Teaching is an integral part of this role. You will contribute to Bachelor’s and Master’s courses in radar systems and remote sensing, supervise student projects, and help shape future educational programmes.
At MS3, you will join a diverse and supportive team of professors, researchers, engineers and students. Through TU Delft’s Academic Career Track, you will receive a competitive start-up package, leadership development opportunities, and structured support to grow your academic career towards associate and full professorship.
Delft University of Technology is built on strong foundations. It delivers world class results in education, research and innovation to address challenges in the areas of energy, climate, mobility, health and digital society. For generations, our engineers have proven to be entrepreneurial problem-solvers, both in business and in a social context.
At TU Delft we embrace diversity as one of our core values and we actively engage to be a university where you feel at home and can flourish. We value different perspectives and qualities. We believe this makes our work more innovative, the TU Delft community more vibrant and the world more just. Together, we imagine, invent and create solutions using technology to have a positive impact on a global scale. That is why we invite you to apply. Your application will receive fair consideration.
Challenge. Change. Impact!
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) brings together three scientific disciplines. Combined, they reinforce each other and are the driving force behind the technology we all use in our daily lives. Technology such as the electricity grid, which our faculty is helping to make completely sustainable and future-proof. At the same time, we are developing the chips and sensors of the future, whilst also setting the foundations for the software technologies to run on this new generation of equipment – which of course includes AI. Meanwhile we are pushing the limits of applied mathematics, for example mapping out disease processes using single cell data, and using mathematics to simulate gigantic ash plumes after a volcanic eruption. In other words: there is plenty of room at the faculty for ground-breaking research. We educate innovative engineers and have excellent labs and facilities that underline our strong international position. In total, more than 1000 employees and 4,000 students work and study in this innovative environment.
