How to find visa sponsorship jobs in the Netherlands

Updated 28 September 2026 · by Hitesh Satwani · figures below are live from the board

To work in the Netherlands as a non-EU citizen you need two things from the same employer: it must be an IND recognised sponsor, and the job must pay at least the highly skilled migrant threshold, €5,942 gross per month in 2026 if you are 30 or older. Most job boards check neither. Searching in the right place is the difference between a hundred applications and ten good ones.

1. search only among recognised sponsors

The Dutch immigration service publishes a public register of the organisations allowed to hire highly skilled migrants. It holds 13,257 entries today, but the register is a list of permissions, not vacancies. JobThing reads the career sites of 1,584 of those employers every day, the ones with a careers page or applicant system we can follow; 1,101 of them have a job open in the Netherlands right now, and 3,185 of the 8,090 open postings are in English. JobThing is that intersection: every job on the board comes from a registered sponsor, pulled from the employer's own careers site.

If you already have a company in mind, its sponsor page tells you in one line whether it is on the register and what it has open.

2. check the salary against the threshold

The permit is salary-gated, so read postings with the 1 January 2026 figures in mind: €5,942 a month at 30 or older, €4,357 under 30, €3,122 if you graduated from a Dutch university within the last three years. Holiday allowance does not count. Only 519 English postings state a salary at all, and 28% of those clear the 30-plus threshold. Filter for jobs with the salary shown when you want certainty, and read the threshold guide for what counts.

3. look for the relocation promise in the posting itself

Being allowed to sponsor is not the same as wanting to. 82 of the open postings, about 1%, say in their own text that they offer relocation support or visa sponsorship. JobThing badges those and quotes the sentence on the job page, so you can see whether it is a standard benefits line or a specific offer. Start with the relocation list; the badge is a signal from the employer, not a guarantee.

Roles without the badge are not dead ends. Many sponsors hire internationals without mentioning it in the advert, especially in engineering, data and research. The badge tells you who is asking for you; the register tells you who is able.

4. apply on the employer's site, then let the sponsor do the paperwork

Applications go directly to the employer. Once you have an offer, the recognised sponsor applies to the IND for your residence permit, usually before you travel, and the IND aims to decide on applications from recognised sponsors within two weeks (the legal maximum is 90 days). You do not apply yourself, and you do not need a separate work permit: for highly skilled migrants the residence permit covers work for that employer.

5. if you are a recent graduate

Graduates of Dutch universities, and people on an orientation year (zoekjaar) permit, qualify for the reduced criterion of €3,122 a month, which opens up junior roles. Starter jobs at sponsors lists internships, graduate programmes and entry-level roles; 1,489 are open today.

what to expect

  • English-language postings are the minority of what sponsors publish (39% today). Speaking Dutch roughly doubles your options at the same employers.
  • Hybrid is normal (2,703 postings); fully remote within the Netherlands is rare (421). A highly skilled migrant permit assumes you live in the Netherlands.
  • Salary transparency is low. Where it is stated, the median advertised figure across all open sponsor postings is €48,000 a year.

questions

Do I need a job offer before I can get a Dutch work visa?+

For the highly skilled migrant route, yes. The recognised sponsor applies for the permit on your behalf after hiring you. The exception is the orientation year for graduates of top universities, which lets you look for a job in the Netherlands for one year without a sponsor.

Can any Dutch company sponsor my visa?+

No. Only employers on the IND Public Register of Recognised Sponsors can apply for a highly skilled migrant permit. An employer that is not registered can apply to become one, but that takes weeks and a fee, so most hiring of internationals happens at companies already on the list.

How long does the IND take?+

The IND aims to decide within two weeks on applications from recognised sponsors, which is one reason the status exists. The statutory maximum is 90 days.
