About the role
As an intern, you will help design, build, evaluate, and scale AI-powered software engineering agents that support activities across the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). You will work on real-world engineering challenges and explore how Large Language Models (LLMs), Agentic AI, multi-agent systems, orchestration frameworks, and modern software engineering practices can improve productivity, quality, knowledge sharing, and software delivery.
What you will do
- Design AI agents across SDLC phases (Intake, Refinement, Design, Development, Testing, Deployment, Operations) that can be applied across a wide range of business and technology domains, to support developers, testers, BA’s and architects.
- Define agent responsibilities, inputs, outputs, guardrails, and evaluation criteria.
- Create prompt libraries, agent definitions, instructions, skills and reusable engineering workflows.
- Evaluate accuracy, consistency, and usefulness of agent outputs.
- Measure productivity and quality improvements.
- Support development of governance and responsible-AI practices for engineering agents.
- Present findings, demos, and recommendations to engineering teams and stakeholders.
- Work closely with engineers, architects, product owners, and engineering leaders.
- Participate in technical discussions, design reviews, and innovation initiatives.
What you get
- Hands-on experience building real AI solutions.
- Exposure to enterprise-scale software engineering and DevOps practices.
- Mentoring from engineers and engineering leaders.
- Opportunity to experiment, innovate, and build solutions that may be adopted by engineering teams.
- A collaborative, innovative, and learning-focused environment.
- Hybrid and international working environment.
- The chance to help shape how AI is used in software engineering, in a large international bank.
What you get
You’ll also benefit from:
- Internship allowance of 700 EUR based on 36 hours work week
- Your own work laptop
- Hybrid working to blend home working for focus and office working for collaboration and co-creation
- Personal growth and challenging work with endless possibilities
- An informal working environment with innovative colleagues
During the duration of your internship at ING, it is mandatory to be enrolled at a Dutch university (or EU-university for EU passport holders).
