Hungry, Humble, Honest, with Heart

The Opportunity Are you passionate about open-source technologies and solving deeply complex distributed systems challenges? Joining our Acropolis Hypervisor (AHV) team at Nutanix as a Software Engineer 2 offers the exciting opportunity to contribute directly to the development of an enterprise-grade hypervisor. In this role, you will work with cutting-edge kernel-level technologies to drive the foundation of our cloud infrastructure, pushing for improved reliability, performance, and security across the stack while making a highly visible impact on the core software solutions that our enterprise customers rely on daily.

About the Team At Nutanix, you will be a vital part of the Acropolis Hypervisor (AHV) team, a highly specialized group of systems engineers dispersed across the US and APAC regions. AHV is the enterprise-grade hypervisor powering the core of the Nutanix Cloud infrastructure. Our culture is deeply collaborative, proactive, and technically rigorous, where open communication, peer mentorship, and cross-functional teamwork are highly valued. The mission of this team is to ensure the seamless operation and evolution of the AHV software stack to effectively support our broader architectural objectives and deliver exceptional reliability.

You will report directly to the Sr. Engineering Manager of the AHV team, a leader who strongly encourages a collaborative and communicative work environment. The manager focuses on aligning the team's technical goals with your individual career aspirations, emphasizing prompt responses, hands-on mentorship, and active engagement from all team members to ensure you have the support needed to tackle complex kernel-level challenges.

This role does not require any travel, allowing you to maintain a steady routine and focus deeply on your systems engineering work in a collaborative local office setting without the disruption of mandatory travel commitments.

Your Role

  • Contribute directly to the core development of Nutanix's Acropolis Hypervisor (AHV).

  • Design, develop, and deploy new AHV features using C, Golang, Rust, and Python.

  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and resolve complex issues in existing AHV codebase and features.

  • Drive continuous improvements in the reliability, performance, and security of the hypervisor.

  • Engage and interact with open-source communities to align with broader kernel developments.

What You Will Bring

  • 1+ years of experience with a BS/MS in Computer Science or a related technical field.

  • Strong proficiency in C/Golang/Rust, and Python programming languages.

  • Deep knowledge of OS internals, particularly UNIX/Linux.

  • Familiarity with x86 architecture, virtualization, storage, and network management.

  • Experience developing software for Unix/Linux/BSD operating systems at the kernel level.

  • Strong debugging skills in Linux kernel modules, multi-threading, algorithms, and data structures.
