Associate Director, Inventory & Accounting Operations

• (Minimum) bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Professional certification (CPA, CA, Dutch RA, or equivalent).
• Prior working experience with Big4 or similar audit firms.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including inventory accounting experience.
• Experience with intercompany/ transfer pricing accounting and multi-entity, multi-currency consolidations.
• Previous experience with Dutch VAT (BTW) is required.
• Strong working knowledge of US GAAP (primary framework) and IFRS, with demonstrated experience applying inventory and cost accounting principles.
• Demonstrated experience leading a financial close and owning balance sheet reconciliations of key accounts.
• Experience operating within a SOX-compliant, public-company control environment.
• Hands-on experience with SAP S/4HANA Private or Public Cloud (or recent SAP S/4HANA experience with a clear path to the Public Cloud edition) and strong Excel skills.

• Previous experience with R&D tax credits (e.g. WBSO).
• Experience supporting product launch and the transition from clinical to commercial manufacturing.
• Demonstrated ability to manage close cycles to tight deadlines with a high degree of accuracy.

The Associate Director, Inventory & Accounting Operations is a senior contributor and people-management role and responsible for the integrity of inventory accounting and the day-to-day operations of the global accounting function at uniQure. This role is key for succession planning in the team. This person owns the end-to-end accounting for the company’s gene therapy inventory — spanning clinical supply through commercial supply — and partners closely with manufacturing 3rd parties, Supply Chain, various R&D departments and the broader finance organization. In parallel, the role drives the global month-, quarter-, and year-end close, monitors and assist to manage the financial close review, balance sheet reconciliations of key accounts, manages transfer pricing accounting, and supports Dutch tax matters including WBSO R&D tax credits and VAT.

• Own the complete accounting for inventory (both US GAAP & IFRS compliant) across clinical supply and finished goods commercial supply and movement through the supply chain.
• Determine appropriate inventory capitalization timing, including the assessment of clinical, pre-approval, and pre-launch inventory and the point at which costs should be capitalized versus expensed.
• Accounting configuration in SAP to monitor and reconcile intercompany inventory transfers across global entities, including intercompany revenue and cost of sales elimination.
• A key component will be that this person will contribute to key-users in SAP related to inventory, which entails owning and working closely with 3^rd party SAP implementation partners to achieve the desired ERP configuration.
• The financial reporting frameworks that apply are both US Gaap and IFRS.

• Lead and partner with the Senior Director, Global Accounting on the global month-, quarter-and year-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate completion of journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations within SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud.
• Own the quality of balance sheet reconciliations of key accounts — including inventory, accruals, prepaid expenses, intercompany , fixed assets, and other significant balances — ensuring reconciling items are understood, documented, and resolved on a timely basis.
• Establish and enforce reconciliation quality standards, review thresholds, and aging targets, and report on reconciliation status and open items to accounting leadership.
• Review journal entries and supporting documentation prepared by team members.
• Collaborate closely with the revenue accounting team to ensure inventory, cost of sales, and related balances are aligned with revenue recognition and reported consistently across the close.

• Own the calculation, accounting of intercompany transactions and monitoring of eliminations across the Group entities. This requires close collaboration with the Tax Finance team.
• Design and implement intercompany processes and elimination reports in SAP.
• Manage the accounting and reconciliation for Dutch Value Added Tax (VAT/BTW), supporting accurate VAT determination, periodic VAT returns, and the resolution of VAT-related reconciling items in coordination with Tax and external advisors.

• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, chart of accounts, and supporting subledgers within SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud.
• Support the preparation of consolidated financial statements and reporting packages, and contribute to external reporting requirements (e.g., SEC filings) as needed.

• Design, implement, and maintain effective internal controls over inventory accounting, the close process, overall balance sheet reconciliations, transfer pricing accounting, and tax-related accounting in compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) requirements.
• Serve as a primary liaison with external auditors for inventory, intercompany, close, transfer pricing accounting and operational accounting matters.
• Manage the accounting and reconciliation for Dutch Value Added Tax (VAT/BTW), supporting accurate VAT determination, periodic VAT returns.
• Partner with technical accounting on the application of relevant accounting standards primarily US GAAP, with IFRS also applicable and the documentation that supports accounting positions.

• Key user in SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud related to inventory and SAP close activities, which entails owning and working closely with 3^rd party SAP implementation partners to achieve scalable process.
• Proactively identifying and eliminating manual processes wherever possible to increase accuracy, control, and efficiency.
• Serve as a finance contributor on SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud initiatives, including process design, configuration input, testing, and data integrity for inventory, GL, and close-related modules.
• Manage and develop accounting staff, setting clear objectives and fostering a culture of accountability and growth. The GL accounting team will report into this role.
• Build strong cross-functional partnerships with Supply Chain, R&D departments and the broader finance organization.
