About the role
The energy transition brings opportunities as well as new risks. At Eneco, we work towards our mission of sustainable energy for everyone and our One Planet ambitions. As part of Mitsubishi Corporation, we have increased our ability to accelerate this transition. Your work in risk management helps us make well-informed decisions and stay in control while our organisation continues to develop.
This role gives you the opportunity to build your expertise across operational risk, internal control, governance and J-SOx. You will learn from experienced colleagues while gradually taking ownership of your own topics and projects. It can also be a strong foundation for a broader career within Finance at Eneco.
You will join Group Operational Risk Management (GORM). The team helps Eneco identify and manage the risks that could prevent us from achieving our objectives. The team sets frameworks, brings information together, reports on risks and controls, and supports and constructively challenges colleagues across the organisation.
You will work with experienced colleagues on several processes that run throughout the year, as well as activities with a clear annual cycle. One example is Eneco’s annual In Control process. You help collect information from different parts of the organisation, assess whether it is complete and timely, and contribute to communication and reporting to senior management and governance bodies.
This is not a role where you advise from the sidelines. You will get to know the organisation, understand how things work in practice and help find solutions that fit Eneco. As you grow into the role, you will take ownership of parts of larger processes and smaller projects yourself.
- Supporting Eneco’s group-wide risk management process, including risk assessments, analyses and monitoring key risks;
- Contributing to the annual In Control process by collecting information from across Eneco, assessing its completeness and supporting communication and reporting;
- Connecting with risk managers, process owners and other stakeholders, while constructively challenging whether agreed controls are working in practice;
- Contributing to the J-SOx assurance cycle and related reporting;
- Helping prepare quarterly and other risk and control reports for audiences including the Management Board, Finance Management Team and, where relevant, the Audit Committee of the Supervisory Board;
- Contributing to the further development of policies, methodologies, GRC tooling and dashboards/reports;
- Gradually taking ownership of parts of larger processes and smaller improvement projects, supported by more experienced colleagues.
You are curious and analytical, but also practical. You understand that good risk management is not simply about applying a framework exactly as written. You want to understand the business, connect with people and find solutions that improve control while remaining workable in practice.
You are comfortable asking questions and constructively challenging others. Not every stakeholder will immediately agree, so you know how to communicate clearly, build relationships and keep progress moving.
You bring:
- A completed university degree, for example in Business Administration, Economics, Accountancy, Auditing, Risk Management or Governance. An RA, RE or RO qualification is welcome, but not required;
- Around 3 to 6 years of relevant experience in risk management, internal control, audit or a comparable environment. Experience within a large corporate organisation, Big Four firm or similar environment can be a strong match;
- A solid understanding of risk management and internal control, for example COSO ERM, COSO Internal Control or comparable frameworks;
- Experience working with different stakeholders and contributing to management reporting;
- A pragmatic and collaborative approach. You are willing to get involved in the details rather than only advise from a distance;
- Professional command of English. English is mandatory for this role. Dutch is a nice-to-have, but is not required;
- You are currently living in the Netherlands.
Experience with J-SOx is useful but not required. If you already understand risk management, internal control or accountancy concepts, you can learn the J-SOx elements within the team.
You will be part of Group Operational Risk Management (GORM). The team works across Eneco and collaborates with colleagues in the business, decentralised risk managers, Internal Audit, external auditors and other stakeholders.
The team combines different levels of experience and perspectives. In this position, you will work closely with more experienced colleagues who can help you develop your risk and control expertise. At the same time, there is room for you to bring fresh ideas, experience from another organisation and your own perspective on how risk management can work effectively in practice.
The environment calls for collaboration rather than working from the sidelines. You will have the opportunity to build relationships throughout Eneco, understand how the organisation operates and contribute to making risk management increasingly effective and mature.
